Pecca fortiter!

Said Belle de Jour, the blogging escort (well, upmarket prostitute, really: enough with euphemisms, the US military have provided us with quite enough of them) who inspired me to start a blog, in an interview:

" … if I wasn't writing the truth I wouldn't be bothered with anonymity."

  1. Last nite when I first read this, I guess I thought “Eco” (Umberto) and smiled, then used the first part of the Latin phrase to comment on the cabaret account. I made a mental note to investigate Belle (yours was the second link to her blog I came upon). This morning, I returned and first checked your ‘inspiration’ (initial) post. Two things: First, she is right in essence, only she does not put it in the best of ways. [But we surely do the same thing and “not revealing, not concealing”.] Second, we are also trying [our best] to be upmarket prostitutes. Our wares are not carnal [ok. maybe.] but is surely our ‘pimp’. And I feel these nicely lit/colored windows could be in Amsterdam or Hamburg for the passers-by to view and enjoy.

Writing this with George Michael’s “Kissing a Fool” on (randomly but very appropriately playing on iTunes). All brackets content inserted while proof-reading this.

  2. Thanks for the stimulating (hehe) commentary. I disagree with much of what Belle says, but her narrative of internalised daily goings-on attracted me and prompted me to start this.

As for us all being whores, sure yes, as long as we have jobs. But I see a point in what Expat Anarchist told me last May: carnal prostitution can be extremely more alienating (to say the least) than typing or working in construction for eight hours. In fact Expat Anarchist was much more graphic, she usually is.

Speaking of Eco, and before anyone mentions this smut in these hallowed virtual grounds: isn’t Foucault’s Pendulum much more fun than all this ‘Code’ filth?
